Welcome to the website of the M-16 National Sailing
Association. We hope your visit to our website will kindle your interest
in the most beloved of all inland lakes scows. Many great sailors from
coast to coast have had the opportunity to sail this boat from the bays of
New Jersey, to the inland lakes of
the Midwest to the mighty reservoirs of the Southwest. Sailors have
learned what scow sailing is about sailing this boat.
The M-16 has always been the people's scow. From its nimble
handling and easy sailing characteristics the M has developed many of the
finest sailors yet provided fun enjoyable sailing to the family or the
most competitive of sailors. Please enjoy our website and learn more
about the M-16.

M-16 Winter Regatta Canceled The M16 Mid-Winter regatta scheduled for March 6,7,8 has been cancelled and
will be re-scheduled for 2008 March at Lake Eustis, Fla. Reasons for
cancellation are NOT because of lack of interest, but rather being scheduled
so late. Many of you had already made skiing reservations, vacation plans or
school conflicts etc. So mark your calendars for next year. As exact dates
and plans are confirmed notification will be made....well in advance.
December 28, 2007 2008 M-16 North American Championship The possible site for this championship might be Pigeon Lake in Bobcaygeon,
Canada. The date that is being mentioned is that of 27th and 28th of July,

Nationals Update
For those of you who have never sailed at Little Egg Harbor before, here's
an old article from M-Scow Quarterly, called "The way to go".
The Way To Go
Sailing at Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club in Beach Haven, NJ
One of the greatest places to sail has to be at Little Egg Harbor. We sail
the races on a relatively small race course, just North of some sedge
islands, which act as a natural barrier to reduce chop in the most prevalent
winds from the South.
Although the Club Series races start at 11 AM, we didn’t have too many races
under 12 miles per hour of wind. With all this wind, you might think that
the current isn’t too important, but it can be a factor.
North Wind
Can be pretty light and shifty or howling and steady. If the tide is going
out, go East. If the tide is flooding , go West. Usually the boats that hit
the corner with the flooding current reach the windward mark first.
East Wind
This wind is usually the beginning of the sea breeze that shifts further
South as the afternoon progresses. It can be a very light wind that occurs
when there is a lot of cloud cover over the mainland. This rare case occurs
while competing with a light West wind, creating some huge shifts. Good
luck; I haven’t it out either. Watch out for the motorboat waves that come
in sets from the channel.
South Wind
These classic sea breeze conditions start between 11AM and noon, building
strength throughout the afternoon. Edge over to the right side in these drag
racing conditions.
West Wind
These are tough shifty conditions that eventually shift to a sea breeze if
there isn’t any cloud cover over the mainland. When the mainland doesn’t
heat up due to cloud cover, sail the wind; a weak sea breeze will fight the
West all afternoon. Keep your head out of the boat, because some huge wind
shifts occur.

2007 Eastern Championships News:
John Applegate (LA 150) continued his impressive year by winning the EMSD
Eastern Championships at Little Egg Harbor Yacht Club August 11-12th.
Applegate pulled away from long-time rival Skip Moorehouse (LE 99) on the
second day of competition to win the event for the third time in his career
as he topped the 16 boat fleet. Click here to
